The Lions Mane Jellyfish is the largest jellyfish in the world. They have been swimming in arctic waters since before the dinosaurs (over 650 million years ago) and are among some of the oldest surviving species in the world.

The largest can come in at about 6 meters and has tentacles over 50 meters long. Pretty amazing when you think these things have been swimming around for so long.

They have hundreds of poisonous tentacles that it used to catch passing by fish. it then slowly drags in it’s prey and eats it. 

That is terrifying.

Look I made a list! It was so much fun, I think I’ll start doing it once a week in 2012. The general gist:

Tumblr — land of teenage girls photographing their outfits in a mirror, home of the instant meme, and world of very, very pretty photographs of all things loved by hipsters — is a pretty fun place. The micro-blogging network will turn five next year, and 2011 saw its big shift from the adolescent edge of relevance to a global social media powerhouse.

Entire Section Of DC United Fans Planks, Makes Inadvertent Statement About The Watchability Of MLS Soccer. The planking craze is officially becoming played out, but the folks in Section 127 at RFK show that you can still do it right with this group plank during a DC United game. It shows you a good plank is still possible provided A) You aren’t a celebrity doing it, and B) You aren’t blocking my way on the sidewalk when you do it.
